Posted by Evan Gould as Website Traffic
Are you aware of the website traffic advantage that can be gained from RSS feeds? RSS is simply a technology that makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that’s easier than checking each site manually. For a website owner it only makes sense to leverage this potential traffic that can be gained though the many RSS directories on the web that categorize RSS feeds.
To implement an RSS feed on your static website it can be quite a technical process. Therefore, a better option is to either create your website on a blogging platform that has RSS feed technology already built into it or just add a blog as a separate section of your static website. I feel strongly the best option for a blogging platform is wordpress.org as there is tons of user support and plugins that make it flexible for your needs. In fact, wordpress is the platform I use on this site. Make sure you use the downloaded version and not the online version of wordpress.
Once you get your blog set up you can start pinging the RSS directories. This will automatically update the RSS directories with a summary of your new posts with absolutely no extra work from you. The updated summary of your blog in the RSS directories will leverage the traffic of the RSS directory and drive some of it to your website. This traffic can be a good source of traffic and also help you find readers for your website so do not underestimate it. By default, wordpress automatically pings all the RSS directories listed at pingomatic.com every time you update your blog with a new post. If you want to find additional RSS directories you can use pinggoat and feedshark, but make sure you do not ping a RSS directory more than once for each post.
You should also use a firefix plugin at http://www.submitemnow.com/install, which will allow you to automatically submit your rss feeds to 113 blog directories.
For newbies or people stuck in the old html website days, RSS is not widely known. Therefore, it can be a good source for you to leverage additional traffic and gain a leg up on your competition.

2I remember my first time on this website. My friend and I were looking for something totally new, something we haven’t read or heard about. We were so tired of college, and didn’t have too much time to go out. And we found this site, and now we come ever day to read some cool information or to discuss something with other people. It’s interesting to hear different points of view!
