Would You Use These Four Places for Coming Up with Guest Post Ideas?
Posted by Hulbert Lee | In: Blogging
Guest posting is one of the most effective strategies for driving traffic to a blog or website. As long as a person can consistently write one guest post after another, they can eventually grow a website that attracts thousands of visitors a month. However, one of the biggest problems people face with guest posting is coming up with new ideas.
As a guest poster myself, I know what it’s like to run out of fresh and new ideas, and sit there staring at a blank screen. Luckily, we have the greatest resource on the planet to help us out — the Internet. Below, I’ve listed four places that you might consider using to help you come up with your next great guest post idea.
Forums
Forums are one of the easiest places to find guest post ideas because it’s like a big arena where people are constantly tossing new ideas and thoughts back to each other. For example, a few weeks ago I went to WarriorForum.com and saw a post of a person who was having trouble focusing in internet marketing. I thought to myself that it would be a great opportunity to write a guest post about helping people like him focus better, so that they could make money online. So instead of just letting the idea sit there, I took action and spent an entire day writing a guest post for one of the most popular internet marketing blogs currently out there — JohnChow.com. He liked it and posted my guest post on his blog all within two weeks. It currently has more than 50+ comments and I got a big spike in traffic from it to my website.
Blogs
Blogs are also another way to come up with guest post ideas. I’d recommend using Google Reader and then subscribing to your favorite blogs. Then just go comment on like 10 blogs a day. A lot of the times, you’ll find out that a blogger will ask a question at the end of the post and that will spark a discussion from the readers. If you are perceptive, you can pick up on some pretty good ideas and use them as a guest post. In addition to generating new ideas, you’ll be more likely to build a good relationship with the blog owner by participating in the blog discussion, and it will be a lot easier for them to accept your guest post if you end up submitting one to their blog.
Yahoo Answers
Yahoo Answers is a Q&A website with lots of randomness going on. It can get chaotic, but if you’re good at digging information, it can be a goldmine for coming up with new guest post ideas. To start, just register for Yahoo Answers with a Yahoo Mail username and password. You’ll start out at level 1. Then go to the categories that you think you might write a guest post on, and then start answering people’s questions related to the topic. As you’re answering questions, you may want to write down any ideas that you come by. By the time you get to level 2 (250 points), not only will you be able to post links under your posts (you can’t do this when you start out), but you will also have a nice list of ideas for you to write about.
Amazon
Finally, you can use a review site such as Amazon.com to create guest post ideas. Amazon has two types of reviews — positive and negative reviews — and a lot of the times, people will give away information from the book for free. Take a book called How To Get Rich for example, a book written by one of the wealthiest men in Britain, Felix Dennis. Ima Pseudonym “Entil Zha” from Amazon.com posted a statement of how Dennis does not offer feel-good advice in his book to become rich, “In fact, he basically says you’re unlikely to get rich unless you’re willing to work like mad while largely sacrificing your social life for extended periods of time.” Just from this statement, and the rest of the information from the review, you can come up with a clever guest post title such as: “You Will Never Become Rich Unless You Do This” or “Why More Than 95% of the World Will Never Become Truly Rich.”
The best part of forums, blogs, Q&A websites, and reviews are that they are always constantly updated. With the exception of blogs and reviews, you can basically just press the refresh button and you might get a great idea for your next guest post.
So what about you? Do you currently guest post? What kind of places do you go to find fresh ideas?
