I am also a believer that you can blog on a topic that you may not know about but is interested on learning and really committed on learning that niche otherwise every blogger would be boxed to a particular topic and nobody wants that.

You need to blog about something your are either very knowledgeable about or very passionate about. With at least one of those things your blog will be short lived IMO.

I think a niche for a blog will make sense if it is of our hobby or favorite things.

The questions outlined above are very useful. Sometimes maintaining blog post could be hard especially when you do not know what topic to write about. Even if you do know, sometimes you have a hard time expounding it.
