Hey Robert,

You are exactly right on the niche... it makes a huge difference. Testing different ad placements can impact clicks and rotating those is also important. If your friend is making only $200 a month with 100K unique visits something is not right. My worst performing site is making way more then that with 3500 unique visits a month. Perhaps if adsense is not delivering the clicks and income due to the niche your friend should try selling links, or CPM advertising.

Regarding a static website versus a blog, you can be successful with both. Blogs sometimes help you get more authority links to the site quicker because bloggers tend to spread link love more often... especially if you have excellent content. If you set your wordpress right you can also use pages in wordpress to build a static site and have a blog as well. This gets you the best of both worlds.

beth charette sez...

Quote..

I am just wondering how you do it. Hopefully the free booklet will tell me. My friend has worked five years on his blog, has 100,000 unique hits every month and makes total $200 per month from ads placed with him. Does that sound remotely like what you are suggesting? I will have to read the book in order to gauge.

End Quote..

I am still a believer that a static site is the way to go in terms of making money with adsense and not blogs.

Now, I am sure that many people will disagree with me on that point and that is just my opinion. A few sites that I know of that have been featured by Google as adsense money makers are static sites. Nothing very fancy either.

So, while your friend might be getting a lot of hits to his blog -design elements, in addition to the way the adsense ads are positioned - has a lot to do with "click thru".

Besides design elements - the niche he/she is in might also make a difference. As the author of this blog post has mentioned - you need to find a keywords that provides at least five dollars a click.

Just sayin...lol...

With regard to content, I have a question.

If I am looking to market a niche, doesn't that mean that I need to have deep knowledge in that area.

Deep knowledge is scarce and is one of the reasons that niche marketers seem to make so much money.

But, the one word that doesn't crop up with the successful niche marketers that I know of is FAST.

For example, the fellow who is marketing the book CRUSH is saying that it took him several years of working on his knowledge relative to wines before he was ready to blog successfully.

I guess I am missing something here.

There seem to be a lot of people who, for example, will buy a software package and try to sell that. But, because there is no deep knowledge involved, people don't come back or they don't buy in the first place because there is no particularly strong motivation for them to buy since the person hasn't spent the time to become an expert in his or her chosen niche.

What my question is is this: If one is going to be a niche marketer, doesn't one have to have special knowledge that others don't have. If that is so, how would buying content work?

Special, deep knowledge isn't for sale. In other words, it's the reason people are coming to the blog to begin with.

I suppose I am a bit confused.

Great adsesnse tips I'm thinking of adding adsense to one of my blogs soon. A friend of mine just added adsense to his blog and is now making an extra 3k a month, but you def need decent traffic to make that kind of money.

Great tips. Which wordpress theme do you prefer to use? I have used bluesense and prosense with limited success. Wondering if you know of any better themes to get clicks. Also I have found that the cpc compared to what I get varies hugely. I get pick up a keyword that has an average cpc of $5 and get $.05 for the click one day and $.35 the next. Is there a better way to tell what the content click is worth?
